Hello
Chris MacLeod
Brachan Irish Wolfhounds.
We bought our first Irish Wolfhound Erindale Kara of Brackthorne in 1979 from Marjorie and Roy Saunders of Erindale kennels and then acquired Erindale Grand Master from them. A dog of old fashioned Sulhamstead type with an amazing temperament.
In the show ring we learned to appreciate sound, workmanlike, houndy stock and we purchased Seplecur Rhona of Brachan from the Seplecur kennels of Gordon and Chris Crane. They became our good friends and mentors, we learned so much about breeding and rearing IWH’s from them, also from other breeders from that era who were kind enough to share their knowledge and experience with us. Solstrand, Braehead, Sulhamstead, Outhwaite, Bokra, Eaglescrag, Sanctuary, Mochras, Maraumac and Caredig to name a few. We were so lucky. It’s sad that we no longer have some of those wonderful kennels breeding Wolfhounds of quality in the UK.
We have bred some beautiful bitches over the years, but sadly shiftwork as a Ward Sister and then “Mum” commitments prevented me from showing as much as I would have liked. Also lure coursing always took precedence over showing for we humans, the Brachan Wolfhounds and Border Terriers. We are proud to breed sound, active, athletic, typy hounds excelling in temperament, which has always been of paramount importance to us.
I first awarded Challenge Certificates at the specialist Hound Show in the UK in 1995. I am very proud to have judged both the IWH Society and IWH Club Breed club championship shows, such prestigious judging appointments. I am priveleged to have judged Wolfhounds in many countries in Europe and also in Canada and America. Also attending lure coursing meets in some of those countries.
I was honoured to win the ballot for a second time and judged the IWH Society Breed Club Championship show again in January 2026.
