Coursing is a great way to keep your hounds physically and mentally fit. Dogs must be at least one year of age to compete, and all purebred sighthounds may enter, as long as they don’t have breed disqualifications.
Large Gazehound Racing Association (LGRA) Events
Hounds race 200 yards on a straight, flat track chasing a furry lure with a squawker inside. Sometimes, a plastic bag is also attached. All dogs must run with properly fitted muzzles and race blankets numbered 1 to 4, in standard racing colors. Winning is based solely on speed and on who crosses the finish line first.
Lure Coursing
Here is an opportunity for sighthounds to follow basic instinct. Hounds are judged on Enthusiasm, Follow, Speed, Agility, and Endurance. Courses usually run 600 to 1000 yards. Spend an enjoyable day with friends who share a common interest, along with your “best friend,” in a beautiful outdoor setting.
